Tried & Tested: 25hours Hotel Bikini Berlin

Hip Hamburg-based hotel brand 25hours Hotels is slowly taking over Europe and we love all about it. Their funky Berlin outpost brings a true urban jungle to the city with designy rooms, a hammock lounge, complimentary mini’s (yes, the cars) and an acclaimed rooftop cocktail bar where Berlin comes to socialize with sweeping views over Tiergarten.

Located in West Berlin’s Charlottenburg district the hotel is housed in what used to be the Bikini complex, a 1950s manufacturing high-rise turned into concept mall and hotel. The building is sandwiched between Tiergarten and the Berlin Zoo on one end and the Kurfürstendamm with the iconic Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtnis-Kirche on the other side (hello urban jungle!). This ensures you have several of the cities main attractions within walking distance of the hotel. Zoologischer Garten train station is only a 5 minute walk from the hotel and connects to all other parts of town.

The Rooms

When it comes to the 149 guest rooms the only choices you need to make are on views and size. Sizes range from M, L and XL while the views are either ‘Urban’ overlooking the buzzy Breitscheidplatz or ‘Jungle’ with magnificent views over the Berlin Zoo and Tiergarten. All are equally fun and quirky and done by Studio Aisslinger, who retained the raw character of the old Bikini Haus and combined it with a good dose of design. Expect colorful open plan bedrooms with either king- or queensize beds, a stocked minibar (with complimentary beers, water and chocolate), a Bluetooth speaker and sleek black bathrooms with rain showers and eco toiletries. In addition the Jungle rooms come with floor-to-ceiling windows and some of them even with hammocks. Opt for a L or XL room and you’ll have free Schindelhauer bikes included in your stay.

Bar & Restaurant

Part of the 25hours experience are the two hotel highlights NENI Restaurant and the neighboring Monkey Bar. Both located on the tenth floor of the hotel with panorama views over Tiergarten and West Berlin. NENI opens for breakfast, lunch and dinner and serves excellent Eastern Mediterranean cuisine in a greenhouse-style setting. It’s also the place where the extensive breakfast buffet is served with all kinds of fresh juices, coffees, yoghurts, freshly baked sandwiches, salmon and (why not) German currywurst.

The next door Monkey Bar is a hotspot for both hotel guests as Berliners. Without a doubt the most tropical bar in town, complete with a roof terrace with palm trees, a bar full of foliage and six meter high floor -to-ceiling windows which offer sublime views over the green Tiergarten park and beyond. Expect busy nights and queues over the weekends (hotel guests can skip the line) and a menu filled with exotic drinks.
