Instituto Moreira Salles (IMS) - Rio de Janeiro
Set in a moody 1950s mansion in Rio de Janeiro’s Gávea neighborhood, the IMS pays a hommage to photography, movies, music and iconography across the globe. An must-visit for anyone interested in Brazil’s exciting cultural scene.
The IMS is a non profit organization, founded by the Moreira Salles family to promote and develop Brazils ever thriving cultural scene. Their Rio de Janeiro outpost is set in a mid-century brutalist house and showcases unique (visual) exhibitions of both Brazilian as international photographers and artists. Be assured to always find a Rio de Janeiro-focussed exhibition on display.
The botanical garden is also open to the public and is designed by Brazilian architect Roberto Burle Marx - who is also the master mind behind the iconic wave patterned Copacabana beach promenade.
IMS opens daily except on Mondays. Free admission, advanced reservation mandatory
